About our school

Lorain Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Lorain, Ohio. Principal Marisol Burgos leads a school where academic support is structured and layered, where students have access to enrichment programming that most K-8 schools in the area don't offer, and where the staff reflects the bilingual, close-knit community the school serves.
The academic program uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), which means students receive targeted interventions based on their individual needs. If a student is struggling in reading or math, the school doesn't wait for a failing grade to respond. The MTSS framework catches gaps early and provides additional instruction before those gaps compound.
Enrichment programming includes Camp Invention, a hands-on STEM summer program developed by the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Students in qualifying grades can participate in National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). Developmental and competitive basketball and volleyball are available for students interested in athletics. Other programs include drama, dance, cheerleading, cross county, track club, student council. The school is responsive to student interests and is continually developing new programs as the interest arises.
Parent involvement is important to our community. The school hosts engaging programs throughout the year to involve families in their students educational community.
Counseling and behavioral health support are available on-site.
Every enrolled student receives free breakfast and lunch.
