Lorain Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Lorain, Ohio. Principal Marisol Burgos leads a school where academic support is structured and layered, where students have access to enrichment programming that most K-8 schools in the area don’t offer, and where the staff reflects the bilingual, close-knit community the school serves.

The academic program uses a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), which means students receive targeted interventions based on their individual needs. If a student is struggling in reading or math, the school doesn’t wait for a failing grade to respond. The MTSS framework catches gaps early and provides additional instruction before those gaps compound.

Enrichment programming includes Camp Invention, a hands-on STEM summer program developed by the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Students in qualifying grades can participate in National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). Developmental and competitive basketball and volleyball are available for students interested in athletics. Other programs include drama, dance, cheerleading, cross county, track club, student council. The school is responsive to student interests and is continually developing new programs as the interest arises. 

Parent involvement is important to our community. The school hosts engaging programs throughout the year to involve families in their students educational community. 

Counseling and behavioral health support are available on-site.

Every enrolled student receives free breakfast and lunch.

Megan Wilson, Regional Vice President

Ms. Wilson has been with ACCEL Schools since 2013 and holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor’s degree in K-8 Education from Western Governors’ University. She also holds a K-12 Reading Endorsement from Ashland University.

Marisol Burgos, Principal

Marisol is an accomplished educational leader with more than 25 years of experience in urban public education. She is passionate about creating equitable, student-centered learning environments where every child is known, valued, and empowered to succeed.
Her career in education began at an early age through teaching Sunday School and participating in the Teaching Professions Thematic Program at Collinwood High School in Cleveland. From ages 16-21, she also served as an intern with the Education Department at NASA Glenn Research Center, where she developed a strong foundation in innovation, collaboration, and STEM education.
Marisol holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Administration. She is bilingual endorsed and completed her Superintendent Licensure in 2026.
Throughout her career with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Marisol served as a teacher, assessment specialist, assistant principal, and principal. She led the district’s only PK-12 International Newcomer School, supporting immigrant and refugee students from around the world while overseeing instructional leadership, staff development, operations, and community partnerships.
Currently, Marisol serves as the Principal of Lorain Preparatory Academy, where she is committed to building a culture of excellence, belonging, and opportunity. She believes every student can achieve at high levels when provided with strong instruction, meaningful relationships, and the support needed to thrive.
Outside of education, Marisol enjoys spending time with family, traveling, teaching Sunday School, serving
through missionary work, and continuing her lifelong journey of learning.

Lorain Preparatory Academy is a public, community school. We are our own school district sponsored by the Charter School Specialists, which provides oversight and enforces academic, fiscal, and legal accountability. We are managed by ACCEL Schools, a high performing network of over 50 charter schools located throughout the United States.
